The Marketing Leadership Council is a critical element of Thomson Reuters’ company-wide commitment to customer advocacy and reflects our desire to place customer needs at the heart of our offerings. While serving their three-year terms, our renowned board members will provide insight into the issues and needs of today’s legal marketing and business development executives. These observations will assist Thomson Reuters in building and maintaining a portfolio of products and services that match the priorities of the dynamic legal industry.
These are the members of Thomson Reuters’ Marketing Leadership Council:
Jeff Berardi is the Chief Marketing Officer for the global law firm K&L Gates, a role he has held since 2006. As CMO, Jeff leads marketing and business development efforts for the firm’s 46 offices located throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, South America, Australia, and the Middle East.
Jeff was personally recognized as the 2011 international Marketing Professional of the Year during the “Excellence in Legal Marketing” Awards, presented during the Hildebrandt Institute’s Marketing Partner Forum. This award celebrates the most innovative marketing professionals, with entrants judged on such criteria as innovation, effectiveness, creativity, leadership, proven results, and marketing excellence.
A regular speaker at industry conferences, Jeff currently serves as a Seven Generations Board Member for the international nonprofit organization City Year and he is a past member of the Global Editorial Advisory board for Managing Partner Magazine.
Jennifer Castleberry leads Lane Powell’s Marketing Department in providing high quality, innovative and strategically directed services, with a focus on efficiency and client service.
She oversees her team in developing marketing and branding strategies, executing innovative events and maintaining effective communication with clients, prospects and referral sources.
She is an experienced manager with skills in troubleshooting, needs analysis and timely project completion in high-pressure situations.
Jennifer previously held marketing-focused leadership positions with several large law firms, where she has been recognized for developing award-winning ad campaigns and brand re-launches.
José Cunningham is Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer at Nixon Peabody LLP and responsible for the strategic direction and execution of the firm’s global marketing and business generation initiatives, including client-focused and industry-based client teams and solutions, client service interviews, media, public relations and communications, brand management, advertising, competitive intelligence, proposal development and market and client research.
Prior to joining Nixon Peabody, José was Chief Marketing and Business Development officer at Crowell & Moring LLP, where he was a member of the firm’s Diversity Council, Lateral Recruitment and Integration Committee, Visiting International Scholars Committee, Globalization Task Force, and the Business Development Task Force. He also managed the firm’s Library and Research Services department.
José was previously Chief Marketing Officer at Shaw Pittman LLP and concurrently managing director of Shaw Pittman Global Sourcing. José joined Shaw Pittman from The Outsourcing Institute where he served as managing director.
José served at the U.S. Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer and has lived and worked in more than 40 countries. He resides in Washington, D.C., is a competitive Masters Swimmer, and Chairman of the DC Republican Party.
Beth Marie Cuzzone
Beth Marie Cuzzone is Goulston & Storrs’ Chief Business Growth Officer. In her role, she spends time aligning practice, industry and working group initiatives with the firm’s strategic vision. An integral part of the firm’s leadership, Beth manages a wide range of firm growth activities, and she is part of the team responsible for overseeing firm branding, external communications, client relationship support, pricing, legal project management, business development and business analysis.
Beth manages the firm’s Client Interview Program and launched the Sales Team Program, Client Services Initiative and Six Sigma/Process Improvement efforts at the firm. She also serves on the firm’s executive committee.
As an industry leader in law firm sales and client services, Beth is a founding member of the Legal Sales and Service Organization (legalsales.org). She is also a member and former President of the Legal Marketing Association, New England Chapter.
Beth co-authored the American Bar Association’s book, “The Law Firm Associates Guide to Personal Marketing and Selling” and “How Did She Do That?”. She is also a Fellow of the College of Law Practice Management. Additionally, Beth dedicates much of her time to support the industry of legal related professional services.
Eric R. Fletcher
Eric R. Fletcher leads the marketing & business development efforts for Liskow & Lewis, bringing more than 30 years of experience to perspectives on what it takes to connect and motivate in today’s marketplace.
From broadcaster to advertising agency partner, producer and writer to author, marketing consultant to CMO, he has a track record of creating award-winning work product, and developing tools and strategies that impact the bottom line.
For more than two decades he has focused on the professional services sector, consulting and leading teams in the accounting, consulting and legal industries. He is a 2013 TED Speaker, has been named one of 50 Marketing Thought Leaders You Should Follow, is co-author of the 2013 release 8 Mandates for Social Media Marketing Success, and has written the Marketing Brain Fodder blog since 2002.
Prior to Shearman, David spent 15 years as the Chief Marketing Officer for Allens Linklaters, one of the largest corporate law firms in the Asia Pacific. David has also been a senior media and policy aide to several Government Cabinet Ministers in Australia, including serving as the Chief of Staff for Sydney’s 2000 Olympics, and as Marketing Director for the Australian Tourism Commission, the agency charged with marketing Australia as a leisure destination.
He also has an extensive background in marketing communications with leading international public relations and advertising agencies, having commenced his career with as a journalist.
Mike Mellor is the Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer for Pryor Cashman LLP, a 190-attorney midsize firm with offices in New York, Los Angeles and Miami. In this role, Mike works to identify, develop and execute strategies to both drive new business and increase brand awareness for the firm and its attorneys.
Mike’s 20-year career has spanned various marketing and business development roles, working at such firms as Paul Weiss, Katten and KPMG. His passion in law, consulting, and in financial services, working at such firms as Paul Weiss, Katten, Deutsche Bank and KPMG. His passion is creating clarity and game plans for attorneys by implementing rigor and process around the new business development cycle. By listening to his internal and external clients, he uncovers unique selling propositions (USP’s) and targeting ideas, and then develops client personas, 30/60/90 day communication plans, and creates other innovative strategies to help attorneys in their business development and marketing initiatives.
A frequent author and speaker around the country, Mike earned his BS from the University of Maryland, his MCert from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and his MS from Columbia University. Mike also serves on the Board of Governors for the University of Maryland’s Alumni Association and is involved in numerous volunteer organizations, including the Long Beach Island Film Festival, Alzheimer’s Association of New Jersey, and the Legal Marketing Association.
Dave Southern has been BakerHostetler’s Chief Marketing Officer since June 2012. Prior to that, Dave had been the Director of Global Marketing for Baker & McKenzie. A longtime proponent of using a superior understanding of client needs as the basis for building sustainable, productive client relationships, for nearly 30 years Dave has helped grow client/customer relationships and revenues for organizations such as Ernst & Young, Gardner Carton & Douglas, DDB Advertising, Procter & Gamble, Anheuser-Busch, General Mills, Kraft General Foods, and G.D. Searle Pharmaceuticals.
Dave is proud to work with an outstanding team of marketing and business development professionals at the firm. Together, this team has helped BakerHostetler to be recognized by Acritas USA as the fastest-growing law firm brand in the United States.
For 25 years, Amanda Walsh has worked in professional services marketing and business development for both legal and financial organizations. In her current role, she is responsible for all business development and marketing strategies and activities for a national product defense firm boasting nearly 200 lawyers in 12 offices. Leveraging the firm’s national platform and reputation, she helps drive the firm’s revenue and growth working with the firm’s leadership, industry groups, office leaders and individual partners and attorneys.
She is a member of the Legal Marketing Association and has been recognized with several national and Minnesota “Your Honor Awards.” In 2010, she was named an “Unsung Hero” by Minnesota Lawyer newspaper.
