Patty Retsinas

Police Officer, Toronto Police Service

I have proudly served as a Police Officer with the Toronto Police Service for 29 years. I have worked in various roles that have offered me the opportunity to experience working in all of Toronto’s 140 diverse neighborhoods including what is known as the “Gay Village”.

I spent five years co-chairing the Toronto Police Service LGBTQ Internal Support Network. I championed for LGBTQ2S+ equality, increase awareness and understanding of relevant issues across the service to create an inclusive workplace.

Currently I am a director with, Serving with Pride (SWP) a not-for-profit LGBTQ2 network, made up of police, corrections and criminal justice professionals from across Ontario. We are dedicated to promoting diversity, inclusion, awareness, and acceptance of LGBTQ2S+ within the organizations and building bridges with the community.

I am co-producing a documentary,”Comingoutcops”, which is the brain child of a group of LGBTQ2S+ law enforcement and criminal justice professionals from across Ontario, Canada. The film is focused on humanizing LGBTQ2S+ members from law enforcement professions.

Some of my most rewarding work has been leading community and youth programs including LGBTQ youth. I strongly believe in fostering relationships, breaking down barriers and building public trust through community engagement.
