Mark Filippell is a Managing Director at Citizens Capital Markets, M&A Advisory. He brings 36 years of investment banking and financial advisory experience during which he has personally completed over 130 merger and acquisition transactions. Prior to co-founding Western Reserve Partners in 2004, which was acquired by Citizens Bank in 2017, Mark was Manager of the Mergers & Acquisitions Department at KeyBanc Capital Markets and McDonald Investments Inc.
Prior to running KeyBanc’s M&A department, Mark led the Bankruptcy and Distressed Business practice. Prior to joining McDonald, Mark was Assistant to the General Manager of Comau Spa, Europe’s second largest factory automation company located in Torino, Italy, then owned jointly by Fiat and Bendix. Prior to Comau, he was with McKinsey & Company where he specialized on capital goods.
Mark graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from DePauw University (class valedictorian). He earned a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School (Baker Trust Scholar) and a Juris Doctor from Michigan Law School, where he was a Senior Editor of the Michigan Law Review.
Mark authored the book Mergers & Acquisitions Playbook: Lessons from the Middle-Market Trenches, published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (copyright 2011).
Mark is currently a Board Member and Secretary of Exxel Outdoors Inc., a manufacturer and marketer of camping apparel. He previously served on the Board of Delaware Dynamics LLC, a manufacturer of aluminum die-cast tooling, and CHT Nuclear LLC, a manufacturer or vessels for nuclear fuel storage and transport. He also served on the Investment Committees of Public Square Partners I LLC and Kirtland Capital Partners V L.P. and was a member of the North Coast Region Advisory Board of FirstMerit Bank.
