Alison R. Nelson graduated with honors from Michigan State University College of Law (Juris Doctor) and Michigan State University (Bachelor of Arts). She will have her diversity and inclusion certification from Cornell University in November.
Ms. Nelson is a career Ford Motor Company lawyer and has worked in various capacities in Ford’s Litigation Practice Group. She is also a chair of the legal department’s diversity committee, which focuses on three pillars: internal, outside counsel and pipeline. Through these efforts, Ford is Mansfield Certified for legal departments. She has a proven track record of sponsoring, training, developing, and grooming many of Ford’s outside counsel into lead trial lawyers and law firm partners. Additionally, she is spearheading the development and launch of the Ford Law Career Academy for high school students. She also has raised over $500,00 for the United Negro College Fund.
In August 2014, Ms. Nelson became the manager over litigation involving Franchise, Facilities, and Insurance Defense issues. She also provides counseling for OHSA, Vehicle Programs and general liability matters. Prior to this assignment, she spent almost 10 years as Managing Counsel of Ford Motor Company's Consumer Litigation and Product Claims Group and Ford's chief counsel on all consumer affair issues. In addition, she has handled Commercial Litigation matters, including antitrust and contract disputes. Ms. Nelson also worked in the Product Litigation practice group at Ford Motor Company for 9 years and was the Team Leader of the General Product Group for 5 of those years. Prior to her joining the Product Litigation group, Ms. Nelson spent 3 years working on regulatory and environmental matters.
