Ones to Watch

MIAMI — There are a number of reasons to be especially excited about this year’s International Swaps and Derivatives Association’s (ISDA’s) Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held later this month. (Yes admittedly, one is the sunnier and warmer climate that awaits the attendees!) However, it’s the plethora of other reasons that will guarantee the 33rd ISDA AGM will leave a lasting impression on all of those that can attend.

First, the agenda is as equally powerful as it is timely. The level of discussion already underway with our clients on the next waves of regulatory and industry challenges — namely Brexit, Initial Margin “Big Bang”, and Benchmark Reform — proves for a much overdue, lively and crucial debate. The AGM offers attendees a unique opportunity for sharing methods and best practices to confront these challenges head-on; as well as a line-up of insightful speakers to facilitate such an important and industry-shaping discussion.

Take our short pre-ISDA survey here! (Participants will receive exclusive access to the survey results and a $5 Starbucks gift card at the ISDA AGM.)

Second, it feels like the change in the tide of technology within the derivatives and documentation community is finally starting to shift in the right direction. ISDA’s incorporation of this development within the general and specialist sessions throughout the event is a huge testament to that. Technology is and will continue to be a core enabler to solve the array of challenges facing the industry today and in the near future.

It’s no surprise that advancements in technology often come in times of severe uncertainty, preparing us even more for the unknown (and undecided) challenges that undoubtedly lay ahead of us. Many legal and financial institutions are investing heavily into these new technologies, and it is critical that we recognize this period as an opportunity to implement the best tools available. In this way, we, as individuals and the wider derivatives community as a whole, can become better and more efficient at what we do.

Finally — if I may insert a plug here — this is the first year Thomson Reuters will be leveraging the ISDA AGM as a platform to showcase our legal technology and managed services solutions. In addition to sharing insights about our managed service capabilities, our team will be giving exclusive, live demonstrations of Contract Express (our proprietary document and contract automation software) and Logical Construct (which powers our full service document and contract data management solution).

Our team is eager to talk to attendees about the specific issues they’re experiencing and what they foresee for the future of their business.

We are very much looking forward to an unforgettable event and seeing you all there in person!
