Lucien Canton is recognized as one of the foremost thought leaders in the field of emergency management. His book, Emergency Management: Concepts and Strategies for Effective Programs, is used in numerous academic courses and he has taught at the graduate level both in the US and abroad. He serves on the editorial board of two major academic journals, is a Senior Fellow for the Center for Digital Government, and publishes two blogs and a monthly newsletter on emergency management topics. Lucien is the former Director of Emergency Services for San Francisco and, as a branch director with FEMA, served as a key staff officer on over fourteen Presidentially-declared disasters in the US, the Pacific, and the Caribbean. He is one of less than 2500 Certified Emergency Managers in the world and is a Certified Protection Professional and a Certified Business Continuity Professional.
